Case Study: Dimension Data Architecture achieves real-time cycling analytics and 75% faster setup with Dell Technologies VxRail Appliance

A Dell Technologies Case Study

Preview of the Architecture Dimension Data Case Study

Mobile data innovation enabling real-time performance improvements in professional cycling

Architecture Dimension Data partnered with Dell Technologies (using the Dell EMC VxRail Appliance) to modernize mobile IT for Team Dimension Data’s professional cycling telemetry. The customer’s challenge was to capture and analyze rider data with ultra-low latency and 100% race-time reliability from a space-constrained mobile truck, replacing bulky, time-consuming racks of servers, networking and storage so teams could get actionable insights within a five-second window.

Dell Technologies deployed Dell EMC VxRail Appliances—a VMware vSphere/Virtual SAN-based hyper-converged solution secured in the truck and integrated with Dimension Data’s managed cloud for deeper analysis. The implementation delivered measurable results: 75% less time setting up and shutting down, about 60% space savings (10U to 4U), faster cloning and test/dev, improved data speed and accuracy for real-time telemetry (heart rate, power, G-forces), and reduced idle capital outlay—enabling better race strategy and operational efficiency.
