Meeting changing requirements with flexible, scalable solutions

Ghent University, a leading Belgian research institution, faced rapidly growing volumes and increasingly diverse research and academic data and needed a scalable, flexible, cost‑effective way to manage and automate storage without disruptive migrations. To meet those needs it partnered with Dell Technologies, deploying solutions such as Dell PowerScale and Dell ECS alongside PowerProtect DD, PowerEdge servers and professional services to modernize its infrastructure.

Dell Technologies implemented a scale‑out architecture—PowerScale for file workloads, ECS for S3‑compatible object access, PowerProtect DD for backup, plus PowerEdge, SyncIQ and ProDeploy Plus for deployment and management—adding replication and cyber protection. The result: a cloud‑like self‑service portal, seamless capacity and performance scaling, remote researcher access via S3, stronger data protection, and an estimated 30–35% savings over other storage alternatives.
