Leading power company quickly pivots to prepare for outages

FieldCore, a GE company in the energy sector, faced a compressed four-day window to implement a disaster-recovery backup solution at its Florida site before Hurricane Irma. To meet this urgent challenge, FieldCore engaged Dell Technologies and deployed Dell EMC Data Domain Virtual Edition, Avamar backup replication, Data Domain appliances and Dell EMC Data Protection software (with RecoverPoint already in place).

Dell Technologies implemented the Data Domain and Avamar-based solution to accelerate deduplication and replicate backups to the recovery site. The deployment delivered a 41:1 deduplication ratio (up from 4:1), a 90% reduction in backup volume, enabled 98% of backups to complete in less than an hour versus 24 hours, and ensured data was replicated before any power outage during Hurricane Irma.
