Case Study: Frost Science achieves rapid remote server management and reliable, scalable computing with Dell Technologies

A Dell Technologies Case Study

Keeping the wonders of nature on display

Frost Science, the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science, needed reliable, scalable IT to run its three‑level aquarium, a 250‑seat Frost Planetarium and remote livestreaming while a small IT team adapted to work‑from‑home. To meet these challenges they turned to Dell Technologies solutions—Dell EMC PowerEdge servers running VMware vSphere/vCenter and the Dell EMC Integrated Dell Remote Access Controller (iDRAC)—for efficient, centralized remote server administration.

Dell Technologies implemented PowerEdge R640 servers and iDRAC to automate agent‑free, remote management, letting staff deploy servers in minutes rather than days, monitor CPU/memory/temperatures continuously, and receive proactive alerts (for example, when RAID drives began failing). The result: faster updates and lower administrative costs, freed IT time for new exhibits and Frost Science@Home, supported some 70–80 virtual servers and graphic‑intensive planetarium clusters, and delivered a 200–300% performance boost with a smaller footprint and reduced data‑center costs.
