Infrastructure refresh improves patient care

Somerset National Health Services Foundation Trust, which operates Musgrove Park Hospital and serves hundreds of thousands in Somerset and beyond, faced aging, siloed infrastructure that slowed clinicians with manual data entry and fragmented systems. The trust sought an on‑premises platform with improved performance, availability, scalability, and a smaller footprint and chose Dell Technologies’ Dell EMC PowerEdge MX modular servers to modernize its environment.

Dell Technologies deployed the PowerEdge MX solution (with MX740c compute sleds, MX9116N fabric, iDRAC, OpenManage, VMware vSphere Metro Storage Cluster and Dell Storage Live Volume) to centralize systems and enable real‑time access. The implementation reduced rack space by ~33% (one 47U rack vs 1.5), cut server replication time to 36 seconds over 20 miles, halved clinician data‑entry time to 5–10 minutes, and eliminated downtime for patches and upgrades—delivering faster, more resilient care and greater operational agility.
