Hybrid, multi-cloud strategy enables agile delivery of patient care

Sentara Healthcare, a rapidly growing health system serving Virginia and northeastern North Carolina, needed faster, scalable access to clinical data so doctors and nurses could deliver high-quality care. To meet that challenge it partnered with Dell Technologies, deploying Dell EMC PowerMax arrays as the core of a hybrid, multi-cloud framework that supports its Epic EMR and a modernized IT environment.

Dell Technologies implemented NVMe-powered Dell EMC PowerMax storage (alongside PowerScale, Isilon, PowerEdge, PowerProtect and VMware vSphere) and a cloud-adjacent replication model to Equinix and public cloud. The solution cut write latency from 0.7 to 0.07 ms, delivered under 1 ms response times, 10× faster data access, up to 8× higher IOPS (peaking at ~160,000), enabled better telehealth and mobile care, and produced multimillion-dollar cost savings.
