Case Study: Texas A&M University-San Antonio achieves 99.9999% uptime and improved student and instructor experiences with Dell Technologies

A Dell Technologies Case Study

Preview of the Texas A&M University-San Antonio Case Study

How technology can power higher education

Texas A&M University-San Antonio faced an aging, end-of-life IT infrastructure with single points of failure and insufficient performance to support students, faculty and administrative services. The university selected Dell Technologies to modernize its data centers, deploying Dell EMC VxRail P570F hyperconverged appliances alongside Dell EMC Data Domain 6300 backup arrays and Dell EMC Isilon scale‑out storage to rebuild a resilient, high‑performance foundation.

Dell Technologies implemented a stretched VxRail cluster across two data centers with Data Domain for backups and Isilon for archival storage, completing the rollout in under a month with partner services. The result: the environment meets the university’s 99.9999% availability goal (VxRail runs at 100% in daily use), the virtual estate doubled from 107 to 243 VMs, IT spun up 60 new servers in a single day, backups and recovery improved markedly, support call volumes dropped, and the university can now pursue VDI, e‑sports and other initiatives—benefits attributed directly to Dell Technologies.
