Case Study: SMC Corporation of America achieves secure, scalable global IT and improved collaboration with Dell Technologies

A Dell Technologies Case Study

Preview of the SMC Corporation of America Case Study

Consolidating global IT to transform the way business gets done

SMC Corporation of America, a global leader in pneumatic technology with operations in 83 countries, faced fragmented IT across dozens of independent departments that hindered collaboration, scalability and data protection. To modernize its environment and accelerate innovation, SMC standardized on Dell Technologies solutions — notably VMware Cloud Foundation on Dell VxRail, Dell PowerScale with OneFS, Dell ECS and Dell Cyber Protection — and committed to building 11 new data centers in 12 months.

Dell Technologies delivered a hyperconverged hybrid-cloud platform (VMware Cloud Foundation on VxRail), high-performance storage (PowerScale/OneFS, ECS) and cyber recovery tools, enabling SMC to consolidate multiple file servers (from five in North America to a single secure platform), spin up private clouds and add storage in minutes, and complete 11 data centers in a year. The deployment improved global collaboration (VDI with NVIDIA GPUs for CAD/3D workloads), reduced power and cooling needs, increased scalability and resiliency, and established an air-gapped backup strategy to protect against ransomware — providing clear operational and security gains for SMC.
