Case Study: City of Pittsburgh achieves rapid device modernization and employee empowerment to boost city services with Dell Technologies

A Dell Technologies Case Study

Preview of the City of Pittsburgh Case Study

Boosting city services by empowering employees

The City of Pittsburgh faced a deadline-driven need to replace a large portion of its aging Windows 7 desktops and laptops and lacked first-hand insight into employees’ real computing needs across 19 departments. To modernize hardware and align devices to specific job roles, the City of Pittsburgh partnered with Dell Technologies, evaluating devices from the Dell Latitude, Precision and Rugged portfolios and leveraging services such as ProDeploy Plus, ProSupport Plus and Dell Encryption.

Dell Technologies supplied role‑specific device options, ran pilots with city employees, and handled configuration and deployment through ProDeploy Plus and ProSupport Plus. The result: a timely, 800‑device refresh program that replaced about 60% of the old fleet, enabled more than 200 employees to work from home in under two weeks during the pandemic, simplified device management, and expanded constituent access to computing resources — with Dell Technologies’ services cited as critical to meeting the city’s goals.
