Case Study: Eni achieves faster sustainable energy discovery with Dell Technologies' HPC5 supercomputer

A Dell Technologies Case Study

Preview of the Eni Case Study

Accelerating the path to sustainable energy

Eni, an Italy-based integrated energy company focused on the transition to a low-carbon future, needed lightning-fast high-performance computing to accelerate its digital transformation and the development of new energy sources. To meet that challenge, Eni partnered with Dell Technologies to deploy the HPC5 supercomputer built on Dell EMC PowerEdge C4140 servers with Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors, NVIDIA® V100 GPUs and Mellanox® InfiniBand® HDR networking.

Dell Technologies delivered a 52‑petaflop HPC5 (1,820 PowerEdge C4140 servers, four V100 GPUs per node, 200‑Gbit/s InfiniBand, 15 PB storage with 200 GB/s throughput), bringing combined peak compute with existing HPC4 to 70 petaflops. The system accelerated seismic processing and enabled new AI‑based energy discovery workflows, reduced energy intensity through highly efficient design and solar-powered operations, and helped Eni speed development of sustainable low‑carbon energy solutions.
