Case Study: The Wellcome Sanger Institute accelerates genome sequencing with Dell AI Factory with NVIDIA

A Dell EMC Case Study

The Wellcome Sanger Institute sequences one genome every seven hours with Dell EMC

The Wellcome Sanger Institute, a scientific research organization, faced the monumental challenge of sequencing 70,000 eukaryotic species for the Darwin Tree of Life project. To meet this ambitious conservation goal, they required a significant scaling of their genome sequencing capabilities. They partnered with vendor Dell EMC to implement a solution leveraging the Dell AI Factory with NVIDIA and PowerEdge XE-Series servers.

The solution from Dell EMC provided a high-performance, on-premises computing infrastructure tailored for AI and vast data needs. This deployment had a transformative measurable impact, accelerating the Institute's output from sequencing three genomes in a decade to producing one genome every seven hours. As a result, the Institute now contributes approximately 70% of the global data for the Earth BioGenome Project.
