Case Study: Banco Popular de Puerto Rico achieves FFIEC‑compliant MFA and dramatic phishing reduction with Dell EMC (RSA) solutions

A Dell EMC Case Study

Preview of the Banco Popular de Puerto Rico Case Study

Security technology combats phishing attacks and provides strong authentication

Banco Popular de Puerto Rico (BPPR), the island’s largest commercial bank, needed to meet an FFIEC mandate to introduce multi-factor authentication after a risk assessment found its in-house three-step password system insufficient and phishing attacks were rising. BPPR chose Dell EMC (RSA solutions) and implemented RSA Adaptive Authentication for risk-based MFA, RSA FraudAction anti-phishing services, and RSA SecurID two-factor authentication for employee remote access.

Dell EMC’s RSA solutions moved BPPR from a reactive to a proactive fraud posture: RSA Adaptive Authentication and FraudAction delivered 24x7 monitoring, rapid detection and takedown of fraudulent sites, and a dramatic reduction in phishing attacks, while roughly 500 RSA SecurID hardware tokens secured remote access. The deployment reduced the time and costs of shutting down fraudulent sites, improved customer confidence, and enabled more secure remote and field transactions.
