ProMedica, a nonprofit health system serving northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan with more than 17,000 staff and a network of hospitals, clinics and specialty facilities, faced IT sprawl from rapid growth: up to 12 data centers, multiple EHR instances, and fragmented infrastructure that hurt availability, performance, management and clinician access. To standardize and support its Epic EHR rollout, ProMedica turned to Dell EMC and its Converged Platforms (Vblock® Systems).

Dell EMC implemented two Vblock Systems 340 and two Vblock Systems 540 with XtremIO all‑flash storage, plus Avamar, Data Domain and RecoverPoint to build a private cloud and VDI environment supporting Epic. The deployment consolidated 12 data centers to four, eliminated unplanned downtime (limited to a single 20‑minute incident), enabled VMs to be provisioned in minutes, and supports ~300 applications and large concurrent Epic sessions—delivering measurable cost, performance and availability improvements while allowing IT to drive business value.
