Case Study: Dimension Data achieves real-time race analytics and 75% faster setup with Dell EMC VxRail Appliance

A Dell EMC Case Study

Preview of the Dimension Data Case Study

Mobile data innovation enabling real - time performance improvements in professional cycling

Dimension Data, working with Team Dimension Data to bring real-time telemetry and analytics to professional cycling, faced a mobility and latency challenge: capture, process and present rider data within a five‑second window from a cramped, mobile truck. The previous multi‑box server, networking and storage approach was time‑consuming to pack, fragile in transit, and created high setup overhead. To address this, Dimension Data deployed the Dell EMC VxRail Appliance as the core mobile IT platform.

Dell EMC implemented VxRail hyper‑converged appliances (VMware vSphere/Virtual SAN and EMC software) secured in the truck to consolidate compute, storage and management. The solution delivered faster, more accurate real‑time insights (heart rate, power, G‑forces), a 75% reduction in setup/shutdown time, a 60% space savings (10U to 4U), quicker cloning and test/dev turnaround, and no large capital outlay sitting idle between races — significantly reducing IT overhead and improving race‑strategy visibility.
