Case Study: Sumitomo Life Insurance Company achieves IT optimization and standardized virtual infrastructure with Dell EMC

A Dell EMC Case Study

Preview of the Sumitomo Life Insurance Company Case Study

IT optimization standardizes and aligns virtual infrastructure with business needs

Sumitomo Life Insurance Company, a mutual life insurer based in Osaka, needed to optimize a fragmented IT estate of more than 150 siloed systems running on roughly 1,000 servers and lacking common service-level standards. To create an objective, business-aligned infrastructure strategy, Sumitomo Life engaged Dell EMC, using Dell EMC Consulting IT Transformation services and Dell EMC Symmetrix VMAX storage as part of the modernization effort.

Dell EMC consultants developed infrastructure policies, a service catalog and a transformation roadmap, performed business-impact analyses to classify systems (SSA/SA/A/B), and built an integrated virtual environment compatible with VMware vSphere, selecting Dell EMC Symmetrix VMAX for high availability and performance. The result, delivered by Dell EMC, was a move from siloed systems to a standardized, virtualized infrastructure aligned to business service levels, optimized for cloud usage, reduced operating cost/risk, and clearer IT roadmap and governance for future private-cloud consolidation.
