Insurer enhances online self-service with identity and access management solution

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City, the largest health-plan provider in the greater Kansas City area with more than 830,000 subscribers, needed an identity- and access-management solution to expand web self-service for members, providers, and brokers while meeting HIPAA requirements and preserving a simple user experience. To meet those goals they selected Dell EMC (via its RSA portfolio), deploying RSA Access Manager and RSA SecurID to provide strong, user-friendly authentication and centralized access controls.

Dell EMC implemented RSA Access Manager for fine‑grained web access control (compatible with Sybase and Active Directory, supporting delegated administration and out‑of‑the‑box Smart Rules) and rolled out RSA SecurID two‑factor tokens to 750 employees for secure remote access. The quick deployment conserved internal resources, improved user experience, ensured HIPAA compliance, and positions the organization to deliver web single sign‑on for roughly 90% of its business applications — strengthening security, reducing costs, and enhancing customer and partner relationships.
