Health care system transforms patient care and business operations with ITaaS

Munson Healthcare, a 6,500‑employee regional health system, faced split data centers and needed high availability for critical clinical applications, shared access across two sites, and the agility to scale IT as a Service (ITaaS) while meeting regulatory requirements. After evaluating options, Munson selected Dell EMC solutions — notably VPLEX Metro and VNX unified storage (integrated with VMware vSphere and Citrix XenApp) — to virtualize and protect its infrastructure.

Dell EMC deployed VPLEX Metro and VNX to enable active sharing and non‑disruptive failover between the two sites, accelerating Munson’s move to a private cloud and ITaaS. The implementation increased availability of critical medical apps, cut storage upgrade downtime from eight hours to minutes, supported 24/7 EMR access, and helped Munson scale services (adding 45 physician practices/184 physicians over four years) while improving agility and driving new ITaaS revenue.
