EMC VSPEX supports rapid growth and protects critical applications

Bar Harbor Bank & Trust (BHBT), a community bank with more than $1.3 billion in assets and 15 branches, was facing rapid growth that outpaced its IT infrastructure: server sprawl, storage that could not support virtualization, slow tape backups that ran into weekdays, and no comprehensive disaster‑recovery for most applications. To modernize its data center and address these risks, BHBT selected Dell EMC’s VSPEX Proven Infrastructure (including EMC VNX, FAST Suite, RecoverPoint, Data Domain, and VMware vSphere) to replace its legacy systems.

Dell EMC deployed a VSPEX solution (with VNX unified storage, Data Domain deduplication, RecoverPoint replication, VMware vSphere and orchestration) across primary and DR sites, enabling virtualization of about 90% of servers and faster provisioning (new virtual servers in under an hour). The change cut full backup times from days to hours, reduced server recovery from days to hours and file recovery from hours to seconds, provided 23 TB of usable storage and bandwidth‑efficient replication, and saved the bank thousands of dollars monthly in power, cooling, and operational costs.
