A Dell EMC Case Study
SherWeb, a leading SaaS provider and one of the world’s largest Exchange hosting firms, faced a major challenge preparing for Microsoft Exchange 2010: mailbox sizes ballooned toward 20–25 GB, requiring far greater scalable storage while preserving the high performance and reliability customers expect. To address this, SherWeb expanded its relationship with Dell EMC and selected CLARiiON CX4 storage along with Dell EMC Virtual Provisioning, Navisphere and PowerPath software to underpin its Exchange 2010 hosting platform.
Dell EMC’s CLARiiON CX4 solution with Virtual Provisioning (thin LUNs), tiered SATA/SAS storage, and centralized management allowed SherWeb to allocate capacity dynamically and non-disruptively scale. The deployment boosted storage utilization by about 20%, reduced upfront allocated storage by 94%, cut cabinet space and power/cooling costs roughly 50%, sped provisioning, and supported rapid growth (storage expanded from ~75 TB to 250 TB) while maintaining Exchange 2010 performance and availability.
