A Dell EMC Case Study
Beachbody, the creator of popular home fitness programs like P90X and Shakeology, faced rapid business growth and fragmented IT systems that caused inconsistent performance across in-house and third-party e-commerce platforms. To regain control and scale, Beachbody standardized on a converged infrastructure based on a VSPEX reference architecture—deploying VNX2 unified storage, EMC Isilon scale-out storage, Cisco UCS servers and VMware vSphere—working with vendor Dell EMC to bring e-commerce back in-house.
Dell EMC implemented VNX2 (with FAST Suite, flash and high-capacity drives) and Isilon (with SyncIQ and SmartQuotas) across two co-location data centers, enabling Beachbody to increase virtual machines from 400 to 1,500 in nine months, double performance of critical Oracle and Microsoft applications, eliminate weekly eight-hour planned outages for the Oracle ATG e‑commerce application, improve overall uptime, and reduce co-location costs through greater density and efficiency; Beachbody is now ~90% virtualized and plans to deploy Dell EMC VPLEX for active-active data centers.
