Case Study: Japan Marine United Corporation cuts storage footprint by 33% and halves management time with Dell EMC Isilon

A Dell EMC Case Study

Preview of the Japan Marine United Corporation Case Study

EMC Isilon supports cutting-edge design with one - third less storage space

Japan Marine United Corporation, one of Japan’s largest shipbuilders, faced rapidly growing data volumes as 3D CAD, high-resolution photos and video became central to vessel design and documentation. Their existing file servers struggled to scale and keep management simple, so JMU evaluated vendors and selected Dell EMC’s Isilon scale-out NAS (including Isilon X200 nodes with OneFS, SmartPools, SnapshotIQ and SmartQuotas) to meet its performance, availability and scalability needs.

Dell EMC implemented a clustered Isilon X200 solution (three nodes plus InfiniBand switching and tiering tools) that centralized formerly siloed file servers, simplified administration and enabled easy scale-out growth. The deployment cut physical storage footprint by 33%, halved storage administration time, and delivered high-performance, easily expandable file storage with automated tiering and snapshot protection for JMU’s current and future design workloads.
