A Dell EMC Case Study

Preview of the Phoenix TV Case Study

EMC Isilon helps Chinese broadcaster exploit new opportunities in HD content

Phoenix TV, a Hong Kong–based satellite broadcaster, needed to grow audience share and online advertising revenue by delivering more high‑quality HD content, but its legacy Fibre Channel storage was expensive, complex and lacked the performance and scalability required. To address these challenges, Phoenix TV selected Dell EMC Isilon scale‑out storage, deploying Isilon S‑Series for high‑performance editing, Isilon X‑Series for archival capacity, and Dell EMC SmartPools and SmartQuotas to optimize data placement and management.

Dell EMC’s Isilon solution created a tiered cloud architecture (420 TB total) that sped access to HD video, eliminated downtime, and simplified storage operations. As a result, Phoenix TV increased production speed by 20%, reduced storage total cost of ownership by 20%, improved program quality and audience engagement, and opened new revenue opportunities for online and subsidiary channels.
