Dubai Municipality, a government organization serving Dubai with 13,000 employees, faced rapidly growing file and block data demands from new eServices. Its siloed storage (five separate file servers), limited scalability and 24-hour RPO disaster-recovery processes caused poor performance and unacceptable data-loss risk. After an RFP, Dubai Municipality selected Dell EMC and planned a consolidation using EMC VNX unified storage, VMAX 20K, RecoverPoint/CL, Replication Manager, VMware vSphere and related technologies.
Dell EMC consolidated the dispersed file servers onto VNX NAS with VMAX back-end, deployed RecoverPoint/CL and Replication Manager for continuous, application-consistent replication and Unisphere for centralized management, and executed a zero-downtime migration. The Dell EMC solution delivered measurable results: RPO reduced from 24 hours to zero, five‑nines availability, protection of 60 TB of data, a 40% increase in storage utilization (and 60% more capacity), plus reduced CapEx and OpEx while meeting SLAs for Dubai Municipality’s eServices.
