A Dell EMC Case Study
The Commonwealth of Kentucky engaged Dell EMC during a statewide IT Infrastructure Initiative to consolidate Executive Branch IT under the Commonwealth Office of Technology. The Office of Infrastructure Services supports enterprise storage and virtual platforms for about 30,000 state employees serving 4.5 million citizens and faced rapid growth—storage needs expanded from roughly 1 PB to 7 PB and hardware was consolidated from about 50 racks to three. To meet these challenges the Commonwealth deployed Dell EMC products and services, including VNX, Isilon, Data Domain, VPLEX, RecoverPoint, Dell EMC Customer Service, Secure Remote Services (ESRS v3) and Dell EMC Online Support.
Dell EMC combined its storage portfolio with proactive support and remote monitoring (ESRS v3 and Online Support) to centralize infrastructure and accelerate issue resolution. The result: a dramatic consolidation (≈50 racks to 3), scaling to ~7 PB of storage, fewer outages thanks to faster, preemptive fixes, and a more reliable, predictable environment that enables better future planning. Dell EMC’s consistent customer service and expert responses delivered measurable operational stability and improved the Commonwealth’s ability to manage continued growth.
