Sempre Technologies Ltd., a 12-person data storage and protection specialist in Auckland, faced customers’ heavy reliance on tape for long-term retention — media that is increasingly unreliable, insecure, and costly. To address this, Sempre partnered with Dell EMC and adopted EMC CloudBoost together with Dell EMC NetWorker, Data Domain and the Dell EMC Data Protection Suite to modernize backups and long-term retention.

Dell EMC’s CloudBoost solution deduplicates, compresses and encrypts backups before sending them to AWS S3, delivering a 6.5:1 deduplication/compression ratio, 75% faster offsite backups versus tape, and a projected 30% reduction in time spent managing customer workloads. By eliminating tape handling, improving security and speeding recovery, Dell EMC helped Sempre substantially cut costs and expand its ability to offer Long-Term-Retention-as-a-Service to global customers.
