Samsung needed a compact, user‑friendly physical keyboard for mobile devices that preserved high input accuracy and reduced “fat‑finger” mistyping. To address this, Samsung used SIMULIA’s Abaqus finite element analysis (FEA) software and automation tools from Dassault Systemes to model and study fingertip‑to‑key interactions.

Dassault Systemes helped Samsung create detailed FEA models of a human fingertip and a device key, automated multiple analyses with Python in Abaqus, and optimized seven key‑design variables to minimize mistyping. The optimized design cut error rates from 35% to 7%, was validated against physical tests, and delivered faster, lower‑cost development compared with trial‑and‑error prototyping.
