Urban Rigger, the Copenhagen student housing initiative, faced the challenge of creating affordable, attractive, and sustainable accommodation in a city with limited space and a growing housing shortage. Danfoss supported the project with heating and ventilation technologies, including heat pumps, hydronic floor heating, and heat recovery ventilation, to help deliver a comfortable indoor climate with a minimal CO2 footprint.

Danfoss implemented “Hydro Source Heating,” using surrounding seawater as a clean heat source, along with solar panels and a 13 kW heat pump. The system extracts 75% of the energy for heating and hot water from the sea and the ventilation unit achieves up to 95% heat recovery, resulting in an efficient, economical, and highly sustainable housing solution with promising operating results.
