University Medical Centre Ljubljana - Customer Case Study

The University Medical Centre Ljubljana faced the challenge of renovating its aging cooling system to ensure a reliable and healthy indoor climate for patients and staff. The hospital's critical requirements for the new system included extremely low harmonic distortion (THDi <5%), high redundancy, zero interference with sensitive medical equipment, and improved energy efficiency. They partnered with Danfoss to find a solution.

Danfoss implemented its VLT® Low Harmonic Drive (LHD) solution to control the new compressors. This active solution combined an AC drive with an active filter in one unit, meeting the strict THDi requirement and ensuring system operation even if the filter malfunctioned. The solution provided the hospital with high safety, 24/7 support, and the primary result of optimal temperature and ventilation control, leading to higher comfort for patients and healthcare personnel.
