Case Study: HOFOR achieves 70% lower emissions with Danfoss VLT drives

A Danfoss Case Study

Preview of the HOFOR Case Study

Seawater cools Copenhagen city, cutting emissions by 70%

HOFOR, the Greater Copenhagen Utility, needed an efficient and reliable way to provide district cooling to commercial customers in Copenhagen, including comfort cooling, process cooling, and freezer applications. With growing demand for cooling and a need to minimize noise, space use, and operating costs, HOFOR turned to Danfoss VLT® drives for its seawater-based district cooling system.

Danfoss implemented high-power VLT® drives to control the main pumps and refrigeration compressors, optimizing flow and capacity to match cooling demand. The solution helped HOFOR achieve high energy efficiency, cut CO2 emissions by more than 3,000 tons per year, and maintain an impressive 99.98% security of supply, even during periods of peak demand.
