Pega Hoist - Customer Case Study

Pega Hoist, a Czech specialist in construction rack-and-pinion hoists, faced an extreme challenge on the Burj Khalifa project in Dubai: moving people and materials safely and reliably in temperatures up to 53°C, high humidity, sand storms, and nearly three years of nonstop operation at unprecedented height. Danfoss supplied VACON® AC drives for the hoists, helping power construction logistics on the world’s tallest building.

Danfoss worked with Pega Hoist from 2004 to develop the product and software solution for the project, resulting in variable frequency-controlled hoists for the main building and jump hoists for the busiest sections. The system included super-fast, no-counterweight hoists with capacities up to 3.2 tonnes, cage lengths of four metres, and speeds of 100 metres per minute, enabling a single 420-metre hoist run—the longest ever single ride by a temporary construction hoist.
