New in-voyage ballast water treatment with Danfoss and Bawat

Bawat needed a simpler, more cost-efficient way to treat ship ballast water and comply with strict IMO and US Coast Guard regulations aimed at preventing the spread of invasive species. Working with Danfoss, the company sought a solution that could be installed onboard and avoid the complexity of chemicals, UV, filtering, or long post-treatment holding times.

Danfoss supplied SONDEX® plate heat exchangers and frequency converters to support Bawat’s in-voyage ballast water pasteurization system, which heats water to as low as 64°C using surplus engine heat. The result is a compact, one-pass treatment solution that helps eliminate harmful organisms while reducing wasted energy, making the system greener and more sustainable.
