The National Research Center for Bananas in Tamil Nadu faced major post-harvest losses in India’s banana industry, with up to 30% wastage and limited access to broader markets. Working with Danfoss, the center sought a way to improve banana quality, reduce spoilage, and help farmers capture more value through better cold-chain and post-harvest handling.

Danfoss helped implement cold-chain solutions including pre-cooling, cold storage, and ripening chambers, supported through its task force with the Confederation of Indian Industry. The results were significant: wastage fell by nearly 20%, farmer income increased by up to three times, and Indian bananas were successfully exported to Europe for the first time, creating new market opportunities and improving supply-chain control.
