Maersk Supply Service – Shore power supply with a payback period of less than 5 months

Maersk Supply Service, a provider of marine services to the offshore energy sector, faced the high cost and environmental impact of keeping idle vessels in "warm storage" using onboard diesel generators in port. The challenges included significant local pollution, noise, and considerable maintenance expenses. To address this, they partnered with Danfoss to implement a shore power solution utilizing the VLT® AutomationDrive FC 302.

Danfoss provided a containerized system with its drives to convert shore-based power for use on the vessels. This solution eliminated local diesel exhaust pollution, drastically reduced noise, and cut maintenance workloads. The project delivered an exceptional payback period of less than five months by saving on fuel and maintenance costs, while also sourcing over 40% of its power from renewable resources through the national grid.
