A Danfoss Case Study
HafenCity, Hamburg’s major new inner-city district, needed a sustainable way to supply heating, hot water, and building climate control while meeting ambitious urban development and CO2 reduction goals. Danfoss provided technologies for domestic hot water, district heating, and energy-efficient heating and cooling systems to support the project’s green standards.
Danfoss implemented district heating via sub-stations and domestic hot water systems, using combined heat and power to make use of surplus heat that would otherwise go to waste. The result was highly efficient energy use, with 90% of primary energy utilized, around EUR 3.7 million in annual fuel-cost savings, and roughly 14,000 tons of CO2 avoided each year.
