Grovfjord Mekaniske Verksted - Customer Case Study

Grovfjord Mekaniske Verksted, a Norwegian manufacturer of aluminum workboats, designed one of the world's first fully electric work boats for the fish farming industry. The challenge was to create a vessel that eliminated emissions and noise pollution while maintaining the performance needed for demanding work tasks, including operating a heavy crane and winch.

Danfoss provided the key technology for this electrification with its VACON® NXP drives. Seven of these drives were used to control all energy flow on the boat, from propulsion to powering the crane and cabin equipment. The solution enabled the boat to operate silently with zero emissions, eliminating 90 tonnes of CO2 and 900 kg of NOx annually. The customer cited Danfoss's collaborative partnership and customizable software as a major differentiator in the project's success.
