Case Study: Denmark achieves carbon-neutral water utility operations with Danfoss

A Danfoss Case Study

Preview of the Denmark Case Study

Denmark - Customer Case Study

Denmark set out to become the world’s first carbon-neutral water utility sector, but like water systems everywhere, it faced the challenge of high energy consumption in treatment and pumping operations. Danfoss worked with Aarhus Water at the Marselisborg Water Supply and Wastewater Treatment plant, using variable speed drives, sensors, and advanced process controls to improve efficiency.

Danfoss helped optimize motors, increase biogas production from sludge and carbon, and reduce overall energy use so dramatically that the Marselisborg plant reached 234% energy production in 2016. This covered its own needs and generated surplus electricity and heat, helping create the world’s first energy-neutral water cycle for Aarhus’s 200,000 residents and reducing consumer water prices by 9%.
