Acciona chooses Danfoss solutions to ensure sustainability of ultrapure water production

Acciona, a construction and water management company, was tasked with providing an innovative and energy-efficient ultrapure water supply for the Sarlux refinery in Sardinia, Italy. The challenge was to create a compact, modular desalination plant that would drastically reduce the high energy consumption of the site's previous traditional multiflash desalination technology, which used approximately 20 kWh/m³.

The solution, implemented with technologies from Danfoss, utilized VLT® AQUA Drive FC 202 drives, high-pressure axial piston pumps, and iSave energy recovery devices. This resulted in a containerized reverse osmosis plant that is extremely compact and energy efficient. The project was a success, achieving energy consumption as low as 2.4 kW/m³, which represents an 11% energy saving compared to typical systems. Danfoss equipment also contributed to the plant's 97% availability guarantee and simplified maintenance.
