Discover Puerto Rico, the island’s official destination marketing organization founded after Hurricane Maria, set out to rebuild meetings and convention business and prove the economic return to stakeholders. Their challenge was to reposition Puerto Rico beyond a leisure image—showing it has modern, tech-enabled venues and walkable convention districts—and to find and engage the specific event planners most likely to book the destination.
Using Cvent’s Supplier Network advertising, Planner Navigator and Business Intelligence tools (enhanced listings, targeted ads, Group Business Webpage and dashboards), Discover Puerto Rico ran data-driven outreach and tailored marketing to the right planners. The results: 900+ RFPs in 2023, more than $35M booked through Cvent, Cvent leads accounted for 53% of group business, bookings hit 137% of 2019 levels, awarded RFPs rose 18% and awarded RFP value rose 54%, and the San Juan convention center became profitable.
