How SendGrid improved engagement and retention

SendGrid, a fast-growing email delivery platform, needed a better way to turn employee feedback into action. Organizational Development Specialist Ealga Ní Aodha found that prior surveys offered branding value but didn’t help improve culture or guide decisions, especially during rapid growth and leadership change. The company needed a tool that would identify what actually drives engagement and allow leaders to act on the data.

SendGrid partnered with Culture Amp for engagement, onboarding and exit surveys that include driver analysis, industry benchmarks and hands-on coaching. The surveys (96% participation, ~1,200 comments in 2016) helped measure the impact of a new CEO, inform the company’s mission, vision and values, and prompt regular all-hands updates. Using targeted goals with executive buy-in, plus improved onboarding and exit insights, SendGrid now integrates people data into strategy and continuously improves recruitment, retention and employee experience.
