How Kmart improved employee engagement

Kmart, a major Australian retailer with 235 stores across Australia and New Zealand, needed a way to build cultural consistency and improve employee engagement across its large, dispersed workforce. Working with Culture Amp, Kmart sought a platform to standardize feedback, gather clearer engagement data, and better understand employee sentiment across stores, distribution centers, and national office roles.

Culture Amp implemented enterprise-wide engagement surveys and analytics that Kmart could deploy on any device, helping the company reach more than 23,000 employees and lift participation from 61% to 70%. The insights enabled targeted actions such as service-recognition badges, shorter manager feedback sessions, and more visible leadership communication; Kmart reported a 4-point rise in connection to its vision in six months, and 50% of stores improved engagement within 12 months.
