A leading software-engineering bootcamp that runs beginner and intermediate programs saw graduation rates drop after COVID and faced a surge in applicants that overwhelmed a small admissions team. Live Zoom interviews (four staff handling ~250 interviews/month) caused technical issues, long grading times, scheduling delays and candidate drop-off, so the school needed faster, more scalable ways to assess applicants’ potential.
The school adopted Criteria’s Video Interviewing (asynchronous pre-recorded interviews) and the CCAT cognitive assessment. Video interviews cut staff review time roughly in half (live ~20 min vs. ~7–10 min), increased application-to-interview completion from 29% to 44% (a 52% improvement) while keeping the interview pass rate at 94%, and produced glowing candidate feedback. The CCAT boosted intermediate-program graduation from 77.5% to 90.1% (a 16% increase), delivering faster admissions, higher graduation rates, and a better candidate experience.
