Retailer Uses WPP Integrity Test to Reduce Disciplinary Problem

A leading retailer in the Southeastern U.S. wanted to reduce counterproductive work behaviors—such as absenteeism, tardiness, theft, and time-wasting—among its retail sales associates to improve overall productivity and discipline.

The company administered the Workplace Productivity Profile (WPP) to existing sales associates and compared scores to manager discipline rankings. Overall WPP scores correlated .23 with discipline (N=28), with stronger relationships for Conscientiousness (.41) and Integrity/Honesty (.45). Sixty percent of employees with High/Medium WPP scores were rated good or excellent in discipline versus 33% of those with Low scores (employees who passed the WPP were 58% more likely to receive a good or excellent rating), and the retailer adopted the WPP for selection at all locations.
