Preview of the US Leading Retailing Company Case Study

Retailer Uses WPP Integrity Test to Help Reduce Disciplinary Problem

A leading retailer in the Southeastern U.S. wanted to reduce counterproductive work behaviors—absenteeism, tardiness, theft, and time-wasting—among its retail sales associates and improve overall discipline and reliability across stores.

The company administered the Workplace Productivity Profile (WPP) to existing associates and compared scores with manager discipline ratings. Employees with medium/high overall WPP scores were 60% likely to receive a good or excellent discipline rating versus 33% for low scorers; overall WPP correlated .23 with discipline, and trait scores for Conscientiousness (.41) and Integrity/Honesty (.45) were especially predictive. Based on these results, the retailer adopted the WPP in its selection process for sales associates.
