A Criteria Corp Case Study

Preview of the Large Restaurant & Nightclub Case Study

Restaurant/Lounge Chain Increases Sales with Criteria

A three-location restaurant/nightclub chain wanted to increase the share of high-performing bartenders and wait staff by making hiring more sales-driven; employee performance was measured primarily by individual sales. The company sought a way to identify candidates likely to generate higher sales and improve overall team performance.

They implemented Criteria’s Sales Achievement Predictor (SalesAP) and compared test scores to manager performance ratings for 39 employees. Overall SalesAP scores correlated .46 with job performance, with sales-related traits like competitiveness, self-confidence and initiative showing moderate to strong correlations; only 20% of “Not Recommended” scorers were high performers, while every “Highly Recommended” scorer was rated a high performer and 79% of those “Recommended or Better” were high performers—demonstrating the SalesAP’s predictive validity and improved team performance.
