Mining and Construction Company Reduces Risk of Accidents on Site

A mining and construction company managing major infrastructure and mining projects wanted to reduce safety incidents on its sites and cut the costs associated with workplace injuries. The organization needed a reliable way to identify applicants who might pose a higher accident risk before hiring.

The company partnered with Criteria to administer the Workplace Safety Profile (WSP) to incoming applicants and evaluated the ROI by having 112 current employees complete the assessment and be grouped by risk level. Analysis showed the “high risk” group experienced 3× more work accidents, 4× as many injuries requiring medical treatment, and 5× as many injuries that prevented a full shift of work compared with “low risk” employees, leading the company to demonstrate clear ROI and continue using the WSP in hiring.
