Manufacturer Increases Training Completion Rates and Retention for Technicians

A major publicly traded manufacturer (1,000+ employees) wanted to improve the performance and retention of its technicians, who operate and monitor machinery and must pass three probationary training tests. The company’s goal was to increase new-hire training completion rates and extend technician tenure.

The manufacturer partnered with Criteria to administer the Criteria Mechanical Reasoning Assessment (CMRA) and the Workplace Productivity Profile (WPP) to 1,340 technicians. Meeting the CMRA benchmark made employees 2.3x more likely to complete all three probationary tests and was associated with 2.8x greater tenure, while WPP “Recommended/Highly Recommended” ratings corresponded to a 58% lower likelihood of termination—showing both assessments strongly predicted better training outcomes and retention.
