Macfab Achieves a 90% Hiring Success Rate with Criteria

Macfab Manufacturing, a 50–100 employee precision-components shop founded in 1987 in Ontario, faced stagnant growth, a toxic culture, and low retention while training highly technical roles that require three to six months to ramp. General Manager Tony Burns needed a way to predict, before hiring, which candidates would succeed long term.

Macfab analyzed 12 years of hiring data, overhauled onboarding, and added Criteria’s pre-employment assessments—WPP and WTMA after phone screens, then EPP and UCAT after in-person interviews—followed by behavioral interviews. Those changes lifted retention from 33% to 65% after HR improvements and to 90% after adding the tests, resulting in lower training costs, greater confidence in new hires, and a markedly improved work culture.
