Janico Adopts a Mobile-Friendly Assessment Process to Find Candidates Where They Are

Janico Building Services, a sub-100–employee commercial janitorial contractor serving Sacramento and the San Francisco Bay Area, faced high industry turnover and a candidate pool that primarily used mobile devices and rarely checked email. That made traditional, email- and phone-based hiring steps ineffective for recruiting and retaining entry-level janitorial staff.

Janico adopted a mobile-first hiring workflow using Breezy HR for text outreach and Criteria’s mobile-friendly assessments (WPP for janitorial roles; EPP and CBST for supervisory hires), sending assessment links by text so candidates could complete them on their phones. The change eliminated the phone screen, sped up the pipeline, improved hire quality and employer image, and helped cut turnover to about 85%—roughly 80% lower than the 200% industry benchmark—saving the company time and money.
