How Teladoc Health is Increasing the Diversity of its Software Engineering Team

Teladoc Health, a multinational telemedicine company with 1,000+ employees, wanted to increase the diversity of its software engineering team. Their Talent Acquisition team needed a way to recruit strong candidates from nontraditional backgrounds without requiring years of prior engineering experience.

Teladoc launched a 4–5 month apprenticeship pilot that partnered with coding bootcamps and used Criteria’s UCAT and EPP assessments to predict candidate success. Of 18 apprentices (38% women, 11% LatinX, 17% veterans, 8% Black, 17% age 40+), all received high performance ratings and offers, 17 accepted, and hiring managers reported the assessments de-risked the process and enabled a shift toward hiring for potential.
