A Criteria Corp Case Study
A heavy machinery supplier with more than 1,000 employees sought to reduce safety incidents and the cost of related claims by identifying applicants likely to pose a safety risk. The company needed a reliable screening tool to flag candidates who might cause accidents or injuries on the job.
The organization implemented Criteria’s Workplace Safety Profile (WSP) and reviewed WSP results and records for 1,243 employees, classifying those below the 20th percentile as “High Risk.” High Risk employees averaged $1,640 per safety claim versus $390 for Low Risk (about 4x higher) and took 4.4 paid leave days versus 0.7 (about 6x more). After the study, hiring managers began using WSP results and the company adopted an automatic screen to exclude High Risk applicants, driving fewer incidents and reduced costs.
